From bike mechanic to designer:
Braeden’s career, built on trust

“Worley invests in people by giving them the confidence to grow.”

We know that trust is the foundation of growth – both for our people and our projects.

For Braeden Henderson, trust in his mentors, team and career path has helped him move from bike mechanic to a Level I Instrumentation Designer in our Perth, Australia office.

Braeden Henderson of Worley.

Carving a growth path

Braeden’s passion for design started in high school, where he was first introduced to AutoCAD and engineering. While finishing his Advanced Diploma of Engineering at TAFE, he chose to take his ambitions by the reins, applying to become a trainee Instrumentation Designer at Worley. This gave him more than just a job – it opened the door to a career.

“I didn’t want to wait to get started,” Braeden says. “The traineeship gave me a direct path into the industry and the chance to apply what I’d been learning to real-world projects.”

Learning from those around him

From day one, Braeden found himself surrounded by colleagues who were willing to share their knowledge. Braeden quickly learned he was not just working alongside teammates, but mentors.

“I’ve been fortunate to have one-on-one mentoring sessions where my colleagues have been willing to share their expertise,” he shares. “They didn’t just guide me – they trusted me with real responsibilities, giving me opportunities to put what I’d learned into practice. That helped me build my skills and confidence.”

One-on-one mentoring, team workshops and hands-on learning gave Braeden the foundation he needed. But it was the culture of trust that made the biggest difference.

Putting theory into practice

During a 22-month placement onsite at a major energy hub in Kwinana, Braeden saw firsthand how strong collaboration fuels delivery and builds trust with our customers.

“At the beginning of a recent project, we held a constructability meeting with the customer to present our designs and solutions. We knew that to maintain trust with the customer, it was crucial that my team and I worked closely to deliver on time and to Worley’s high quality standards. Our team pulled together to make this happen.”

Trusting the process

Now a full-time Level I Instrumentation Designer, Braeden is looking ahead.

“Regular coaching sessions with my team lead have helped me track my progress and set new goals. It’s a space to reflect, learn and look forward.”

His advice to future trainees?

“Trust the process. Trust your mentors. And most importantly, trust yourself. The support network here is real – and it will help you succeed.”
