Our story
Building on our past. Ready for the future.
Founded more than 50 years ago and headquartered in Australia, we are the world’s largest provider of engineering, project and asset management solutions in the energy, chemicals and resources sectors.
Our growth into a truly global organization has been driven by both our people and our strategic acquisitions. The experience of those who built our business remain at the heart of our organization today, now strengthened by the diverse capabilities of the companies that have joined us along the way.
This combination gives our globally connected team of engineers and consultants the ability to deliver efficiently, cost-effectively, and to the highest standards.
Our journey is marked by decades of change, adaptation and growth. As the world has evolved, so have we.
Here’s our story
The 2020s
The 2020s marked a decade of acceleration and focus. We sharpened our strategy, evolved our brand, and adapted to meet changing customer priorities.
We transitioned from engineering partner to global solutions provider creating lasting impact through strong partnerships.
The 2010s
The 2010s was a decade of significant change. From new leadership to the acquisition of Jacobs ECR that diversified our capabilities.
It also marked the first stage of a vibrant evolution of the Worley brand.
The 2000s
The events of the 2000s played a major role in shaping the company you see today.
From an IPO to a merger that changed everything. Then a financial crisis that changed the world.
But even during challenging times, there are always opportunities to learn. So what did we learn?
The 1990s
The 1990s saw our entrepreneurial spirit take off and with it year-on-year growth that led to the Worley name regularly appearing in annual Top 10 Growth Companies listings.
We also reflect on our legacy of safety, one of the foundations that underpins everything we do.
The 1980s
Invention, innovation and opportunities for growth were the constant theme of the 1980s as the team built its reputation in complex structural repair projects.
The crucial role we played in the North West Shelf Gas project was our springboard into Asia and the world energy market.
The 1970s
From shelves to platforms, our journey began as a small engineering consultancy in Australia – Smith De Kantzow Wholohan Grill – doing small projects.
But we laid the foundation for what would see us become a global leader in engineering solutions.
