As Managing Consultant – Group Manager for Circular Economy, Ian plays a pivotal role in partnering with customers to deliver innovative solutions that are economically attractive and address their unique sustainability challenges.
With nearly six years at Worley, Ian draws on his experience in chemical engineering, environmentally sustainable technology development and waste stream recovery to help businesses rethink their approach to plastics.
“No two days are ever the same, and I love working with teams across disciplines to find new ways to solve their sustainability challenges,” Ian says.
Plastics are essential, but more sustainable processes are required
Ian emphasizes that plastics are integral to modern life.
“Plastics are responsible for some of the most life saving innovations in history.
“But to make them truly sustainable, we need to focus on reducing use where possible and ensuring materials are kept in circulation for longer. This helps lower the carbon footprints of plastics products, minimize landfill usage, and tackle plastic waste.
“Increasing efficiency and producing high value products will drive further interest in expanding plastic recycling, along with supporting legislation from governing bodies.”
Shaping the future of plastic recycling
According to Ian, the future of plastic recycling looks promising.
“Waste plastic is no longer just waste – it’s becoming a valuable feedstock.
“Looking ahead, I expect the plastics industry to become more advanced, with higher recycling rates and new polymers designed for easier reuse. The future is about making recycling not just possible, but efficient and scalable.
“With the right technologies and an agile mindset, we can unlock even more value and make recycling a cornerstone of the circular economy.”
