Yatin Mahajan
Operations Director – Batteries

“India’s growth story is just beginning—and energy transition technologies like battery materials will play a key role. I’m here to help make that happen.”

Yatin brings three decades of experience in engineering, project delivery and operations leadership across the energy, chemicals and resources sectors. He began his career as a mechanical engineer, working across all core areas before stepping into project and engineering management roles. Over the years, Yatin has led multidisciplinary teams and complex portfolios—from managing a $2 billion project, to expanding a local business from conventional to sustainable domains. Today, as Operations Director, he also serves as the point of contact for battery material projects in India.

A deep technical thinker with a hands-on learning mindset, Yatin enjoys studying emerging technologies, understanding the changing techno-economical global landscape and developing in-house expertise that supports Worley’s commitment to delivering sustainable change.

With India rapidly emerging as a growth engine for clean energy technologies, Yatin is right at the heart of the momentum.

He sees the country’s youthful demographic, rising incomes and fast adoption cycles as powerful drivers of change. “India will remain young for decades—and with that youth comes ambition and appetite,” he says.

“This energy is driving demand —from electric vehicles to battery storage systems. It’s a market that’s scaling fast, with government incentives creating opportunities for both domestic growth and global supply. But delivering battery materials is much different than building a refinery or a chemical plant. It demands a different mindset—more R&D, tighter integration across the supply chain, and a deep focus on yield and technology, all meeting the need of speed to market.

“I work with customers to navigate these shifts—balancing ambition with execution. Whether it’s scaling a new team, managing risk on a major EPC project, or deep diving into the latest battery technology, I thrive on continuously learning and facilitating others to do the same. Because transformation doesn’t happen from the sidelines. You need to be in it, building it, every step of the way.”

As customer and community demand rises in parallel, he’s closely working with Indian customers from conceptualization to building plants, bringing global technologies from lessons learnt to ensure predictable delivery.
