D-CRBN’s renewable syngas

Worley selected to engineer D-CRBN’s renewable syngas demonstration plant in Belgium

D-CRBN has selected Worley to provide engineering services for its new renewable syngas demonstration plant in Antwerp, Belgium. The project is designed to demonstrate a lower-carbon pathway for producing feedstock used in the chemicals and fuels sectors.

The plant will produce syngas using D-CRBN’s plasma technology, which uses electricity to convert carbon dioxide and biomethane into renewable syngas. The syngas can then be used to produce lower-carbon fuels, plastics, and chemicals.

Worley will deliver the plant’s design, along with safety and cost studies needed to support construction.

“Moving from concept development to detailed engineering is an important milestone for D-CRBN. Worley’s experience in gas separation, multidisciplinary engineering and industrial project execution will help us translate our proprietary plasma technology into an integrated and safe demonstration unit. The project will provide the operational data and engineering foundation needed for our near-future commercial-scale deployment,” said Gill Scheltjens, D-CRBN CEO.

The modular demonstration plant is designed to support faster deployment and future expansion. It will produce 200 tonnes of renewable syngas per year and support a future commercial plant with an approximate annual capacity of 10,000 tonnes.

By combining D-CRBN’s plasma technology with Worley’s experience in scaling first-of-a-kind technologies, safety and project delivery, we aim to establish a strong foundation for construction and help create a scalable pathway for larger renewable syngas installations,” said Geert Reyniers, Worley Vice President of Innovation and Technology.

The engineering scope extends Worley’s existing partnership with D-CRBN. Worley previously supported concept development for the plant’s syngas purification stream, as well as reactor scale-up assessment and industrial planning.
