Delivering front end engineering design for Uniper’s Connah’s Quay Low Carbon Power Project (CQLCP)
We’re one of two companies delivering front end engineering design (FEED) for Uniper on the potential development of a new combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power station with carbon capture technology at their existing Connah’s Quay site in the North-East of Wales, UK.
In December 2024, works began to complete FEED for the project. The initial FEED is expected to take around a year to complete. As part of this, we’ll also be designing and submitting development plans for the follow on engineering, procurement and construction execution of the project.
The new power station is expected to be able to provide around 1.1GW (up to a maximum of 1.38GW) of low carbon power. Developed in two phases with an initial capacity of around 550MW, the first phase would be able to supply enough low carbon electricity to power up to 1.4 million homes each year.

Marino Barbi, Senior Vice President of Worley for the UK, added, “We share Uniper’s vision for a low carbon future, and are proud to be supporting their energy transition goals. By working together, we’re not just addressing today’s energy challenges but also setting a new standard for sustainable practices in the UK’s low carbon energy industry. This project award further builds on our extensive portfolio of carbon capture and energy projects executed in the UK and globally.”
“Uniper’s Connah’s Quay Low Carbon Power project is an exciting potential new CCGT with a multi-million-tonnes-per-annum carbon capture plant development, essential for UK low carbon power generation. With our Big Catch™ concept we are leveraging our experience and insights from delivering carbon capture plants across industries today. We are looking forward to continuing our collaboration with Worley and Siemens Energy through the FEED phase to establish the foundation for the project to be realized.” said Jon Christopher Knudson, Chief Commercial Officer of SLB Capturi.
Darren Davidson, Vice President of Siemens Energy UK and Ireland, said, “We are delighted to join with Worley and SLB Capturi in a combined project team which is committed to partnering with Uniper in delivering the Connah’s Quay Low Carbon Power project, including this next step FEED process.”
