Worley to support delivery of innovative container port in Western Australia

Worley will act as marine and port infrastructure technical advisor for Westport, a landmark program that will revolutionize the state’s transport infrastructure by 2040.

Worley has been appointed Marine and Port Infrastructure Technical Advisor to the Westport Program – a state government led infrastructure initiative that will shape Western Australia’s future trade network. The appointment is a key milestone for the program as it works toward a world-class container port in Kwinana.

“Worley is pleased to be working with the Western Australian Government on the Westport Program supporting sustainable infrastructure development in Australia,” said Chris Ashton, Worley CEO. “Westport will be designed to improve connectivity while minimizing impact to the marine environment, and is a great example of how Worley is working towards delivering sustainable change.”

A partnership built to deliver

Together with Arcadis, Worley forms a joint venture that brings together extensive local capability backed by global experience in delivering complex port precincts, marine infrastructure and integrated transport networks. This combination will help Westport design a highly efficient, resilient and future ready freight system for Western Australia.

In addition, the venture is supported by specialist partners that will contribute across:

  • container terminal simulation and digital twinning
  • sustainability, decarbonization and circularity
  • dredging design and marine engineering
  • economic and commercial analysis
  • environmental integration and nature positive design.

These insights will provide a comprehensive approach to planning, design and operational readiness. In addition, a suite of digital tools will enable an integrated, future focused design by providing Westport with transparent, data driven decision-making.

A proven track record

Drawing on extensive global experience in delivering complex port and transport infrastructure, the joint venture and its specialized partners bring insights from some of the world’s most advanced container terminals and large-scale maritime developments.

“Our global experience spans automation transitions, environmentally sensitive marine precincts, multiyear construction programs, and integrating advanced digital systems into operations,” says Andrew Gilham Senior Director, Transport, Infrastructure and Logistics, APAC. “By applying lessons from leading ports worldwide, we’ll ensure Westport gains proven, high performing solutions – not off the shelf designs.”

Embedding sustainability and inclusion

Sustainability will be central to the Westport Program and Worley will support the integration of nature positive principles from the outset. Examples of this include use of advanced modelling, and evidence-based sustainability frameworks to support biodiversity and community-based outcomes. This approach aligns with Western Australia’s environmental objectives while also strengthening the project’s long‑term value.

Inclusivity plans include engagement with Aboriginal communities through partnership with organizations that support local skills development, alongside the adoption of culturally safe workforce processes.

A long-term vision

Worley, Arcadis and the broader joint venture partners are committed to working collaboratively with Westport to support the development of a port solution that is resilient, efficient and aligned with Western Australia’s long-term trade ambitions. Together, the joint venture brings the capability and experience needed to help deliver a significant piece of infrastructure that will serve the state’s economy and communities for decades to come.
