Sparking change: how Imran is building a career without limits
Imran Ali, a Graduate Electrical Engineer based in our Abu Dhabi office, has been with Worley for the past 18 months. In that time, he’s contributed to several key projects for the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, supporting their Gas Processing, Offshore and New Energies divisions.
From the beginning, Imran was struck by the culture of inclusion already embedded in our organization.
“During my interview with Worley, the discussion was refreshing. The four Principal Engineers interviewing me focused on my technical skills and experience – with very little reference to my hearing impairment,” he says. “Now I understand why. Inclusion and support are ingrained in Worley.”
Imran quickly committed to playing his part, volunteering for a leadership role in our All Abilities people network for the Middle East.
In the year and a half since he started with us, Imran has already achieved several accomplishments. “So far, it has been a phenomenal journey. Every day I’m learning – about the industry, how to set goals, manage time, collaborate with project teams, and understand Worley’s operations across the OKQU region (Oman, Kuwait, Qatar and the UAE).”
Reducing barriers through consideration
Site work poses additional challenges for Imran, where clear communication is critical to safety. But instead of holding him back, it’s inspired new ways of working.
“I know that if we focus on identifying and reducing the barriers that come up in different situations for me, and other colleagues with disabilities, we can give everyone the same career opportunities.”
His team adapts its approach on site, and together they find ways to make things work.
We’re committed to building future leaders – and Imran is ready, with high ambitions. “I’m continuing to develop my technical and interpersonal skills and I’m passionate about advancing Diversity, Equity and Inclusion across the Middle East.”
